Appeal for the horses and ponies of Manmoel Common Appeal for the horses and ponies of Manmoel Common
17th July 2014

In the last few days we have had numerouse calls pleading with us to help as news circulated that council officials had seized 49 illegally abandoned horses on Manmoel common, Ebbw Vale, and were desperately trying to rehome them in order to avoid a further tragedy of ponies dying of starvation next winter.

Knowing that a request to take in the 49 abandoned ponies, including pregnant mares and some with new foals, had been sent to all members of the National Equine Welfare Council, we contacted the authorities again, offering to take in any remaining ponies that the other major equine sanctuaries could not accommodate. As we were informed that the other sanctuaries were choosing from photographs which ponies they wished to take, we were expecting to be asked to take just a few of, what we affectionately refer to as the 'scuffy wuffies' that nobody else would want. Sadly, it transpires that the number of horses and ponies who can't be placed with other organisations has now been confirmed as 38 and we expect these to arrive at Hillside in the near future.

If you would like to help with this appeal, please enter the amount of pounds you wish to give below. Thank you.

These are mostly the type of animals that the horse world wouldn't give a second chance to. To us, every life is precious.

If you would like to help with this appeal, please enter the amount of pounds you wish to give below. Thank you.

In Pastures Green In Pastures Green

With around a thousand rescued horses, ponies and donkeys and over three hundred cows now in our care, we have now had to look further afield to ensure we have enough grazing for them all during the summer months.
Although we always rest several acres for summer grazing, these are not now sufficient to sustain all the extra mouths we have to feed. So, this year we have hired an extra 500 acres of fresh grazing pastures around us in Norfolk and lots of our rescued horses and cows are already enjoying life in the natural environment these meadows provide.
However, having this additional land, which provides every animal with an acre of fresh grass, costs around £100 per cow or horse for the whole summer which is much healthier for the animals than feeding them hay all through the year.

If you would like to help provide much-needed grazing for our rescued horses and cows, any amount, however small, will be very gratefully appreciated.

Every donation of £5 we receive provides grazing for a Horse or Cow for a week during the summer and in return we will be pleased to send you a Grazing Certificate

For anyone who would like to donate £100 to provide a rescued horse or cow with grazing for the whole summer, we will send you a special picture of your ‘own’ horse or cow out in the fields. Thank you...
