Rescued Shire Horse Appeal... Rescued Shire Horse Appeal...

February 2012 - Following our serious concerns, we are relieved that we have been able to take in ten neglected Shires, including pregnant mares, who have arrived at Hillside Shire Horse Sanctuary in a very poor state. These horses were seized by the police under instruction from two independent vets and have been placed in the care of Hillside while a prosecution is pursued.
If you would like to contribute to these horses' feed and care or towards funding Hillside's prosecution of the person responsible for the animals' neglect, you may donate below...

Shetland Pony Appeal... Shetland Pony Appeal...

February 2012 - We were asked to help 30 unwanted Shetland ponies whose future looked bleak. A previous owner had bred from them for profit and, when the demand for the foals declined, he 'disposed' of the entire herd. This established herd consists of 28 pregnant mares and 2 stallions. Most of these ponies have spent their entire lives together and were in danger of being sent for slaughter or split up - some to live a solitary life in somebody's garden.
We resolved to do our best for these ponies and offered them sanctuary at Hillside We are glad to say that, although some of these tiny ponies will need feeding up for a while, they aren't likely to 'eat us out of house and home'. However, they will all need basic necessary veterinary treatment - vaccinations and de-worming to ensure they attain a healthy condition. If you feel you would like to help secure the future of these rejected mothers-to-be, whose forthcoming foals will, this Spring, double their family numbers, you may donate here...

Romanian Dog Rescue Appeal... Romanian Dog Rescue Appeal...

There are thousands of dogs living on the streets of Romania and when rounded up, they are often brutally killed. In January 2012, quarantine laws controlling the import of dogs into the UK, are set to be safely relaxed and we certainly didn't have to think twice when we were recently asked if we could help by bringing some of these tortured dogs out of Romania to the safety of Hillside. It will cost around £200 to bring each dog to England and transport them to the Sanctuary. If you would like to help towards this Romanian Dog Rescue Appeal, please donate online here, or by telephoning 01603 736200...

It costs around £300 to neuter, vaccinate, micro-chip and keep a rescued dog before finding him a home. Any help toward this, however small, will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

A Racehorse in Trouble... A Racehorse in Trouble...
Tolly, pictured, is just one of many thousands of racehorses who are rejected and killed every year by the ruthless horse racing industry. We were pleased to offer Tolly a home at Hillside, where he will be safe to enjoy the rest of his life, together with over 50 other ex-racehorses who we have also given sanctuary to. Here they are free from the harsh regimes and uncertain future of racing, where many callous owners will discard a horse for being just seconds too slow on the track.

If you would like to donate towards the feed and care of our rescued ex-racehorses, please donate below:
